Africa's East Coast

Drifting off the coast of East Africa, between Kenya and Tanzania, is an experience that feels like slipping into another rhythm of life. Here, the Indian Ocean invites travelers into a world of water-based adventure: traditional wooden dhows glide over turquoise waters, offering sailing trips that blend culture and scenery; coral reefs teem with life for snorkelers and divers exploring marine sanctuaries like Mnemba Atoll or Kisite-Mpunguti; kayakers and paddleboarders drift along mangrove channels alive with birdlife; and deep-sea fishing boats venture offshore in search of marlin and sailfish. For those drawn to calmer pursuits, sandbank picnics and sunset cruises reveal the coast’s quiet beauty, while swimming with dolphins or simply floating in the warm, clear shallows captures the essence of tropical freedom. It’s a place where the ocean becomes both playground and guide, shaping every day into a new tide of discovery.

There and back again...

There are some incredible stays along east africa’s coastline. Beautiful reefs to snorkel, dhows to sale, exquisite accommodation and a plethora of activities to be done – we do mean a few, however. Sadly most of the interior coastline is plagued by hustlers and crowds so the beach experience is less than enjoyable. We have handpicked only the best and most exclusive properties for our coastal add-on’s to our safaris.

Founders thoughts…

On my recent journey along East Africa’s enchanting coastline, I was reminded of how magical this region truly is. The turquoise waters beckoned me into a world of discovery, from snorkeling vibrant reefs to exploring hidden lagoons by dhow. Each day was filled with the rhythm of the ocean, yet what made the experience unforgettable were the authentic island accommodations—intimate retreats that felt deeply connected to the culture and natural beauty of the coast. Staying in these hideaways offered a rare sense of place, where the sound of the waves, the warmth of the people, and the simplicity of island life blended into an experience both grounding and luxurious.
